Tunisia is an Islamic country with Sunnite and Malekite foundations.

During the Middle Ages the Kharejite religion was widely adopted, but this particular doctrine is nowadays only supported by a minority situated on the Isle of Jerba, where it is reflected throughout a most original architecture.
Followers of the Jewish faith used to be present in large numbers in Tunisia, but most of them have gradually moved to France.
Many Christians have left the country since the declaration of independence.
A few parishes can however still be retraced, especially around the city of Tunis.
